Most people on thyroxine take it in the morning but for many that can be inconvenient, given the need to wait an hour before having any food. . A recent research study has shown that thyroxine is equally effective when taken at night. The paper by Bolk and colleagues examined patents who had been taking stable doses of thyroxine for six months then randomised them to either a morn ing or evening dose for three months before switching over. They measured their thyroid function tests as well as assessing quality of life with a questionnaire. Then study actually demonstrated better absorption with the evening dose
