Q: My bone density results are very good. Will a hemithyroidectomy alter calcium levels in my bones?
A: Hemithyroidectomy never affects the calcium level as there are 2 parathyroid glands on each side so you don't need to worry. The calcium levels are only at risk if a total thyroidectomy is performed.
Q: I don't take any prescription medication, but I do take multi vitamins and bone building supplements. Can I continue to take vitamins up to the time of the operation?
A:General multivitamins are fine to take up until your operation. You just need to be careful of any blood thining supplements such as fish oil capsules or krill oil capsules.
